Sydney Film Festival returns to cinemas around Sydney June 3-14 and in preparation, we’ve partnered with streaming service SBS On Demand to present Sydney Film Festival Selects. This special curation is the perfect way to get Festival fit with acclaimed films from directors featured in this year’s Festival lineup, alongside some of SFF’s most well-loved hits.

STREAM FILMS FROM DIRECTORS FEATURED AT SFF 2026
Jane Schoenbrun, winner of the Queer Palm at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, leads the curation with their feature debut WE’RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD’S FAIR (2021), a horror hit that blurs reality and fantasy in the world of online gaming.
Legendary Australian filmmaker Peter Weir will give the Ian McPherson Lecture at SFF this year – and his celebrated mystery-drama THE LAST WAVE (1977), starring Richard Chamberlain and David Gulpilil, also features in the lineup.
There’s not one but two films from Japanese master Kore-eda Hirokazu, including BROKER (SFF 2022), starring Song Kang-ho (Parasite, SFF 2019); and MONSTER (SFF 2023), an intense and morally complex drama told through multiple perspectives.
There are three acclaimed films from directors featured in this year’s Sartorial: Fashion on Film series, including GOSFORD PARK (2001), directed by Robert Altman; PRISCILLA (2023), directed by Sofia Coppola; and WINGS OF DESIRE (1987), directed by Wim Wenders (Notebook on Cities and Clothes, SFF 2026).
From Gus Van Sant (Dead Man’s Wire, SFF 2026) there’s the classic crime comedy TO DIE FOR (1995), starring Nicole Kidman. From Kelly O’Sullivan and Alex Thompson (Mouse, SFF 2026), there’s the poignant comedy-drama GHOSTLIGHT (2024). And from French-Moroccan director Laïla Marrakchi (Strawberries, SFF 2026), there’s the bittersweet comedy ROCK THE CASBAH (SFF 2014), starring Egyptian great Omar Sharif in his final feature film performance.
Looking for stories about love and desire? There’s MY SUMMER OF LOVE (SFF 2005) starring a young Emily Blunt, a romantic thriller directed by Polish Oscar winner Paweł Pawlikowski; and EAGER BODIES (2003), from celebrated French director Xavier Giannoli (Rays and Shadows, SFF 2026).
From Austria’s Marie Kreutzer (Gentle Monster, SFF 2026), there’s the award-winning historical drama CORSAGE (SFF 2022), starring Vicky Krieps. And don’t miss PIG (2021), the feature debut of Michael Sarnoski (The Death of Robin Hood, SFF 2026), starring Nicholas Cage as a man on a mission to find the person who stole his beloved pig.
