A Child of My Own
In Mexico, Alejandra feels pressure from all sides to have a child. After a chance meeting in a hospital with a pregnant woman who does not want her baby, the two strike a deal that could change both of their lives. Alejandra must now convince everyone around her that she is pregnant over several months, while relying on someone she barely knows to follow through. Alberdi (The Eternal Memory, The Mole Agent) once again proves herself an essential voice in contemporary documentary filmmaking, presenting this unbelievable true story in a multilayered way, moving from a staged retelling of Alejandra's testimony using actors and heightened design, to a more stark exploration of the pressures placed on women and how far one will go to have a child.
