If Pigeons Turned to Gold
Filmmaker Pepa Lubojacki documents four family members over many years as they each move in and out of unstable housing while living with addiction – a struggle that has shaped their family across generations, especially brother David. Returning again and again with their mobile phone, Pepa amasses 200+ hours of footage, searching for the brother they once knew while reckoning with their own limits in trying to help. Combining diary footage, AI-animated talking photographs and a variety of spectacular graphical elements, Pepa pushes the boundaries of what is possible in documentary form. Shifting between playful and serious, it may leave you feeling changed about how you see addiction and those living within it.
