The Seoul Guardians
At 10:28pm on December 3, 2024, President Yoon Suk Yeol declared martial law, accusing the Democratic Party of collaborating with North Korean communists and sending shockwaves across South Korea. Within minutes, crowds gathered at the National Assembly as MPs raced to enter, climbing walls and pushing past police to hold a vote that could halt it. As tensions escalated and the National Guard closed in, citizens from all walks of life stood their ground, determined to protect democracy. Memories of the 1980 Gwangju Democratic Uprising echo throughout, sharpening the stakes. This urgent, edge-of-your-seat doc from directors Kim Jong-woo, Kim Shin-wan and Cho Chul-young is political cinema at its best.
